It's a groaner

English Art/Literary Photography/Imaging (& Graphic Arts)
The text is part of an interview to a photographer. Q: "Shooting beautiful women with Africa as a backdrop and beautiful beasts as props could be considered something of a cheap shot, don't you think?"
A: "I get that all the time."
Q: "And how do you answer?"
A: "It's a groaner. I just groan. I feel that as a by now quite accomplished parasite on subject matter, I can do both—extreme beauty is extreme beauty"

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

English term (edited): it\'s a groaner

It's a question that I get so often that it makes me groan

It's an annoyance. He just groans in response. He is an artist, a photographer. He gets the question so often that he doesn't even bother answering it. It's a groaner means it's something that provokes a groan, an expression of annoyance and impatience.

agree Jonathan MacKerron : not past your bedtime??; once upon a time there was a young lady in a far off land who couldn't go to sleep, so instead of counting sheep she sat at her computer...

it's stale, corny

banal
Peer comment(s):

agree John Alphonse (X) : The speaker himself says it causes him to groan, so not sure that's what the asker needs to know. But the meaning is that the comment is cliché - or corny and stale.
